Ribagolfe (Lakes course) (formerly known as Ribagolfe I or the Blue course): A few years ago it was a case of "look out Estoril", things are hotting-up to the east of Lisbon - at least from a golfing standpoint. Here at the Herdade da Vargem Fresca two excellent courses arrived ... the very impressive Ribagolfe Lakes course, and the delightful Ribagolfe Oaks (formerly known as Ribagolfe II).
The Lakes is an expansive layout with back tees stretching to over 7300 yards and definitely built with professional golf events in mind. This is a marvellously natural and gently undulating environment with not a house in sight, just cork-oak trees and a few other varieties giving good definition to the holes. The fairways are also defined by excellent bunkering and some quite nasty rough that's best avoided.
In front of the large, contoured greens there is significant bunkering, usually requiring high-flighted shots as the best approach to the flagstick. Water comes dangerously into play at the par-5 13th, the teasing short par-4 14th (to have-a-go or not, that is the question) and again at the testing par-3 15th.
At the excellent par-4 7th and par-3 8th water is not so much in play as the provider of the best views from the course. Neither too tight nor too generous, this is a great golf course which will thoroughly test your game in a stunningly natural setting.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.
