Quinta do Lago Golf (Laranjal course)

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 2009

Quinta do Lago (Laranjal course): the most recent of the Quinta do Lago trio of 18-hole layouts, the Laranjal course exudes all the quality, and a touch of opulence, that you'd expect at this prestigious golf estate.

Set in the Ludo Valley, without any significant views beyond the course, here you'll find a quiet, lush and classy layout. A wonderful golf oasis, occupying what was previously an orange grove. This relative newcomer has frequently been dubbed the "Augusta of the Algarve."

Laid out on gently rolling terrain, the course exudes a lush open-parkland character, with barely any rough to speak of between the well-spaced holes. Your putting will be thoroughly tested on the large, fast, undulating greens.

An inner front-nine loop hands over to the outer back-nine loop. Stylish white-sand bunkers contrast with the green of the generally good-width fairways and light grassy rough, while umbrella pines, cork and orange trees are liberally used to define the holes. Six attractive ponds, in play especially on the front-nine par-3s, complete the picture.

Pick of the holes: the final pair provide you with an extravagantly bunkered uphill par-4 at 17. The snaking par-5 18th brings you back downhill, with two water features to navigate before reaching the safety of the final green.
