Russley
Russley Golf Club: Although water does make a brief appearance at the end of the par-5 6th and at the par-3 7th, its trees that will dominate your thinking here at Russley - one of New Zealand's older and more established clubs. Many holes on this relatively compact and flattish layout resemble tree-lined avenues, and quite tight ones at that.
The bunkering is not too heavy, but is quite sufficient given that your primary "hazard" will be the line of tall pines and other trees separating the fairways. Perhaps the back-nine has some of the tougher and more interesting holes, but the look and feel of this parkland layout is consistent throughout.
Christchurch airport is just across the road from the course, but the runways seem to be aligned to create a minimal amount of noise on the golf course and on the terrace of the very smart clubhouse.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends (more restricted on Thur and Sat)
Must book in advance.
Non-metal spike facility. Walking permitted at all times. Golf carts available for hire.

Russley hosted the New Zealand Open Championship in 1985 (see Tournaments section >by Venue). Christchurch is a key base location for many of the Antartic Survey activities; several associated buildings can be spotted across the road from Russley Golf Club.
