Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort, home to a highly-rated seaside links layout, is located just outside the city of Azemmour, which sits on the left bank of the Oum Er-Rbia River. The nearby fortress-city of El Jadida (formerly called Mazagan) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Siezed by Portugal in 1502, "Mazagao" became the site of a large fortification and was held by the Portuguese until their forced departure in 1769. Back in the hands of the Sultans of Morocco, the city was eventually reinvigorated and renamed al Jadida ("The New").

79th Women’s US Open: the second women’s major championship of the season gets underway at Lancaster CC in Pennsylvania. It’s the second time the championship has been held here.
