Berjaya Hills
Berjaya Hills Golf & Country Club: Previously known as Bukit Tinggi, the Berjaya Hills course is a stylish and testing championship layout, skilfully woven into some of the world's oldest rain forest. Stunning tropical flora covers the steep hills on either side of this out-and-back layout.
Looking down onto the course from one of the tree-covered ridges, you'll notice some rather novel structures. Among them an Alsace-styled hotel village (modelled on Colmar in France) and a huge French chateau conference centre. Somehow they do actually fit in with the surroundings!
The steep-sided hills here are mirrored on the golf course by the "himalayan" ridges and peaks of the distinctive earthmounding, and extravagant slopes on the greens.
With the possible exception of the par-4 4th (which requires a very precise tee shot, then blind approach over a jungle-filled ravine), the holes here are well-designed, excellently bunkered, always testing and probing, but not always excessively penal for the occasional wayward shot. There is a bit of room to breath!
Although variable maintenance standards have been commented on in the past, the picturesque backdrops and scenery may mitigate. Holes like the downhill par-5 10th are bordered by dense pristine jungle. The also downhill 12th is as good a risk-reward, go-for-the-green par-4 as you'll find. The par-5 18th brings the round to a fitting and dramatic finish, with a tough approach shot over water to a rocky-fronted, elevated green.

Good
Located at 2,500 feet above sea level, in some of the world's oldest tropical rainforest, the Berjaya Hills resort owes some of its popularity to the cooler air found here compared to that of downtown Kuala Lumpur.
Although less than an hour's drive from KL, Berjaya Hills (like nearby Awana Genting Highlands) is located at the western edge of the Malaysian state of Pahang ... a former sultanate that occupies the central and eastern part of the Malay peninsula.
There have been many spectacular development plans for the area bordering Berjaya Hills. A full scale replica of the Acropolis is one possibility, as well as a huge German-style Rhine castle. Although these plans have yet to come to fruition, what does exist is the spectacular French-themed Colmar Tropicale village and The Chateau Spa Resort, both perched just above the course.
Also in the neighbourhood are the jungle's ever-present residents, including macaque and dusky-leaf (shy) monkeys, as well as baboons and hornbills, which you may glimpse on rare occasions.

Visit websiteColmar Tropicale is a French themed resort, inspired by the original Colmar village in Alsace. A picture postcard come alive! At its heart is Colmar Square, a cobblestone central courtyard where you can enjoy outdoor dining and street performances. The village looks down onto the Berjaya Hills golf course. You could also opt to stay in the neighbouring Chateau Spa and Wellness Resort, which is modelled after the Haut-Koenigsbourg, a medieval castle in the Vosges Hills of Alsace. The Chateau offers all the delights of an 18th century Renaissance French Boutique Hotel & Spa.
