Gardagolf Country Club

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1986

Gardagolf Country Club: On the south-western shores of Lake Garda, the Valtenesi hills play host to two of Italy's golfing jewels. Garda Golf is the more mature of the two, comprising 27-holes of top quality golf, skilfully and challengingly laid out by Messrs Cotton, Pennink & Steel. Six kilometres to the southwest is Arzaga Golf Club, the handsome and opulent young pretender.

Gardagolf's wonderfully undulating and excellently maintained layout will test your full range of shot-making. It also rewards you with some of the best views offered from any golf course in Lombardy. To the east is Lake Garda, away to the north, the Alps. Many of the area's historic attractions fill the foreground, not least the very impressive 10th century Soiano Castle and the renowned Rocca di Manerba (see Did You Know section below).

The Rosso/Red (1-9) and Bianco/White (10-18) are the most challenging of the three nine-hole loops, but the Giallo/Yellow-nine (19-27) also provides plenty of scenic golfing challenges.

All 27 holes are blessed with immaculate greens, and often lined by cypresses, olive groves, centenarian oaks and maritime pines. You'll have a few blind drives to negotiate; at the par-4 4th a television monitor at the tee shows you what's happening up ahead.

The undulations and elevation changes of the Valtenesi hills are all too obvious as the course effortlessly meanders up and down gentle slopes, passing through areas of mature woodland and also through more open stretches. Holes like the plunging downhill par-3 2nd, with plenty of water to cross in front of the green, capture the essence of timeless golf course design - the hallmark of Gardagolf.

Did you know?

Comfortable, dormy accommodation is available in Gardagolf's own guestrooms.

Founders Riccardo Pisa, a local entrepreneur and Giorgio Simonini, were keen to establish a golf course in the Valtenesi region, a wonderfully picturesque area of green hills on the shores of Lake Garda (between Desenzano and Salò). Granted planning permission in 1986, the project was to transform part of what was once the Omedeo Estate, which straddled the municipalities of Soiano and Polpenazze.

From the golf course you will see the Rocca di Manerba, a high promontory dominating the western shore of Lake Garda. From its strategic position overlooking Italy's largest lake, the Rock of Manerba was continuously occupied from the late Neolithic period (4500 BC) to the 16th century.

Gardagolf has hosted many top level tournaments including the Italian Open and Ladies Italian Open. For more details see: Top Golf Tournaments at GardaGolf Country Club.
