4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 2004

Roganstown Golf & Country Club: Designed by Irish golfing legend, Christy O'Connor Jr, this award-winning course arrived on the Dublin golfing scene in 2004 as the centrepiece of Roganstown Golf & Country Club. Laid out in quiet, rural countryside, just 10 kilometres north of bustling Dublin city, the course has already established an excellent reputation with local and visiting golfers.

Occupying relatively flat, open parkland, each of the holes has been given good definition by O'Connor's use of strategic bunkering, good earthmounding and occasional water hazards. On the front-nine water arrives most tellingly alongside the par-5 5th, and again at the very good par-3 6th, where a carry from tee-to-green will be needed to find the safety of the putting surface. The par-4 8th is played alongside the gently-flowing Broadwater River, while another tee-to-green carry is required at the par-3 9th.

The back-nine continues the open parkland theme with attractive ponds and small lakes threatening on several holes, and slightly more elevation change also in evidence. Two ponds and a small creek defend the approach to the very good par-4 11th, while the par-3 12th and the terrific closing par-5 18th also bring a line of small ponds into play.

Providing you stay in-bounds and away from the water, wayward shots are not be punished too severely; O'Connor Jr maintains a good balance between the course's playability and the golfing challenges it lays down. Roganstown's thoroughly enjoyable parkland layout will continue to grow in stature and reputation, particularly as additional trees planted around the course continue to mature.
