Dingle (Ceann Sibeal)
Dingle Golf Links (Ceann Sibéal): Perched on the most westerly edge of Europe this wonderful gem of a links course is resplendently laid out before you at the first tee. On a bright sunny day, there is no finer nor quieter place to enjoy a round of golf. Although a few kilometres off the well beaten tourist trail, the drive along Dingle Bay is as stunning as the Dingle Golf Links itself.
At Ceann Sibéal, to give the course its Gaelic name, the scenery, the layout of each hole, the bunkering and the greens all are top class. Whether gazing at the offshore Blasket Islands in the Atlantic Ocean or at mountains to the south and east, you'll be captivated by the scenery and challenged by the golf course.
The modest sized dunes shouldn't cause you too much trouble in golfing terms, but there are two things to be mindful of at Dingle. Firstly, a small burn winds its way across the course, coming directly into play on the opening hole and putting in several repeat appearances thereafter.
Secondly, check the weather forecast. When the Atlantic winds are blowing hard across this open exposed course, you'll need a good supply of golf balls for your round. If it's a case of wind and rain, then a well-tested set of waterproofs are also essential.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.
Must book in advance. Maximum handicap (May thru' Sept): men 24; women 36. Proof of handicap required.
