Note: 16-player event comprising the leading eight players from first two rounds of the Leggitt & Myers Open, who switched into the match play event, joining eight invited exempt players. Played in parallel with the last two rounds of the Liggett & Myers Open on the same course.

Played as the inaugural Liggett & Myers Open Match Play Championship (Aug 26-29; medal match play; field of 64 players). Losing finalist Phil Rodgers (USA) finished 6 shots behind 31-year-old DeWitt Weaver (USA), who shot a 1-under-par 71 in the final to record his first PGA Tour win in his seventh year on the Tour.
