Played as the inaugural Alfred Dunhill Masters (Nov 3-6; Asian/Aus Trs event). Second-placed Pat Burke (USA) finished 1 shot behind Kay (Can). At the second hole of his third round, Nick Faldo (Eng) removed a piece of coral from behind his ball in a bunker - not an issue under European Tour rules, but not allowed under Australasian Tour rules, which applied at this event. Faldo was only notified of his disqualification a day later at the 12th hole of the final round, when he held an unassailable six shot lead!
