Le Golf de la Bresse is home to a course where you can enjoy a wonderfully natural and pleasantly scenic round, surrounded by the area's rich tapestry of woodland and agricultural countryside. Laid out on flattish terrain, this generally well-maintained golf course does much to mirror the natural landscape.
At times quite open, at others more wooded, you'll not be bothered by either housing or traffic as you manage your way around a course that is not without its challenges. The good-width, well-bunkered fairways on the front-nine, give way to some tighter and more tree-lined challenges on the second nine-hole loop, not least at the par-5 18th, played down an avenue of mature oaks towards the attractive, single-storey clubhouse.
The excellent quality greens here are never overly large, but are stoutly defended by expansive, shallow bunkers. Although there is only one sizable pond to contend with (at the 11th and 12th), water does play its part, either skirting alongside some of the fairways, or providing an infill between tee and green at the par-3 5th and 12th holes. The other two par-3s, at 8 and 16, are longer and demand precision shots to find the well-defended putting surfaces.
In this tranquil, rural idyll, the only interruptions you may encounter are occasional outbursts from the resident gallery of ducks and pheasants, and any of your own exclamations when accuracy is lacking on this fair and well-laid out course.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.
Must book in advance. Handicap required.
Players generally walk this course. Golf carts available for hire.

Located on the south-western edge of the Jura mountains, the Bresse area surrounding the city of Bourg-en-Bresse is perhaps best known for the production of two food products. Poulet de Bresse is a breed of chicken renowned for its rich, gamey depth of flavour. Equally well-known in French gastronomy, and first produced just after World War II, is the soft, blue cheese, known as Bresse Bleu.
