Omaha Beach (Le Manoir)
Golf Omaha Beach (Le Manoir course): 36-holes of championship golf, onsite accommodation and excellent practice facilities make Omaha Beach an ideal Stay&Play location from which to explore Normandie and its historic D-Day beaches. Originally configured as three nine-hole loops (La Mer, Le Bocage and L'Etang), Omaha Beach has been extended and now divides into two 18-hole courses: La Mer and Le Manoir.
Although lacking La Mer's clifftop excursion and occupying a slightly more compact area, Le Manoir is nevertheless an enjoyably scenic and challenging layout, offering many fine inland views across the Bessin valley. At times exuding an undulating linksy character, at others an open parkland feel, the layout's defences are to be found in significant elevation changes, water hazards at six holes and an abundance of large, elliptical bunkering.
The closing holes of the front-nine take you down alongside a sizable renovated farm, where a small lake features prominently on the par-4 8th and 9th holes. You won't be scaling the seaside cliffs that rise up from Omaha Beach on Le Manoir, but you will be make several journeys up and down a hill which divides the course's upper and lower levels.
On the back-nine the uphill and downhill holes alternate, creating several dramatic elevation changes, but also making for a significant physical workout should you opt to walk the course. The toughest climb comes at the par-5 18th.
On La Mer each hole is dedicated to the architects of the 1944 Normandy Invasion; on Le Manoir hole-by-hole recognition is given to some of the many action heroes who were actually in the thick of the fighting.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.
Must book in advance. Handicap required.

Omaha Beach Golf Club stands on what was originally the Saint Sauveur farm, which was liberated on June 7, 1944 by the 16th Infantry Regiment of the U.S. 1st Infantry Division (also known as the Big Red One and the Fighting First). The Division's inspiring motto is: No mission too difficult - No sacrifice too great - Duty first.
The golf course takes its name from the stretch of beach just east of Port-en-Bessin, between Ste-Honorine-des-Pertes and Vierville-sur-Mer. From June 6, 1944, this beach would be forever known as Omaha Beach, the Allies code name for what turned out to be one of the best defended and most difficult landing points for the invasion of German-occupied France.
