From centre of Grasse take N85 direction Digne / St Vallier de Thiey. After 2.4 km (climbing the hill out of Grasse) turn left onto the D11 direction Cabris. After 3.2 km Golf entrance is on your left.
Golf du Claux Amic: High in the hills above Grasse (the ancient perfume capital of the world), lies this relatively new and pleasantly challenging golf course. Laid out in former hunting grounds on a wooded hillside, the course is hilly in parts, although not too onerous to walk.
The quiet and naturally tree-lined holes present some intimidating drives, although on many occasions there is a tad more room out there than you at first think. With no roads or housing to disturb, you can apply your full concentration to nailing those tightish drives.
A spectacular view looking down to faraway Cannes and out onto the Mediterranean opens up at the par-4 12th green. This wonderful vista comes as a welcome change from the ever-present, though always attractive woodland scenery.
There is not much water to worry about as you journey round, although a small pond needs to be crossed in front of the par-3 13th green. Maintenance standards are generally good, but one is left wondering why the excellent chateau no longer functions as a boutique hotel. It does however provide a large and sumptuous clubhouse.
Overall Claux Amic is a challenging woodland course and very well worth a visit. many visitors combine it with the even grander Chateau de Taulane, which is located a bit further along the D6085 from Grasse.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.
Must book in advance. Handicap required.
