Golf Country Club Saint Donat: If you want to give your golf game a thorough workout in pleasant parkland surroundings, then Saint Donat will certainly oblige. Here beside the small La Mourachonne river in the Grand Vallon de Grasse, Robert Trent Jones Jr has created a good but tough layout in a relatively compact area.
The opening and closing holes require precise driving, with the river an ever-present danger. In the middle section of the course there is a lot less water (the par-3 10th excepted) and more room to manouevre from the tee. However, good bunkering and large greens will keep you on your toes.
The layout includes a few blind drives, although much of the time you play from nicely elevated tee boxes that give a clear view of the hazards ahead.
On the way round you'll encounter two substantial derelict villas. One is marked on the scorecard as a 4-star hotel, which may perhaps be the case, but only if they replace the missing doors, windows and roof!
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.
