Club du Lys Chantilly (les Chênes course): Between the historic town of Chantilly and the cistercian Abbeye du Royaumont lies the upmarket residential estate of Domaine du Lys (lys in English means lily). Here you will also find two very pleasant golf courses at Club du Lys Chantilly.
"Les Chênes" (the Oaks) is the bigger and better of the two Club du Lys courses, an excellent example of Tom Simpson's deft mastery of golf course design. Laid out over relatively flat terrain in a quiet and nicely wooded environment, each tree-lined hole exudes its own distinctive character.
Stylish bunkering and a mix of straight and doglegging formats culminate at the glorious 17th hole. This good length par-4 presents elegant lines and excellent bunkering, creating a hole of great character - a standard bearer for the rest of this excellent course.
Les Chênes is a testament to the skill of the golf course architects of yesteryear, not least Tom Simpson and Harry Colt. Both left an enviable legacy of courses in and around Paris (see the Did You Know section below). They had the ability to craft great layouts from the existing terrain and its natural features. There's was certainly not the world of giant earthmovers and artificial lakes and ponds.

The excellent quality of golf courses around Paris owes much to the work of two great English course architects - Harry Colt and Tom Simpson (1876-1964). While Harry Colt is much revered for his continental European designs in The Netherlands, and Simpson for his in Belgium, both men spent time designing courses in and around Paris.
In the period between 1905 and 1930 Colt's Parisien legacy includes: Saint Cloud and Saint Germain. Meanwhile Simpson's designs include: Chantilly (Vineuil course), Club du Lys Chantilly (Chênes course), Fontainebleau and Morfontaine.
