Denarau Golf & Racquet Club: Denarau Island (separated from the mainland of Viti Levu by two rivers) is known for its many luxury ocean-front hotels. Behind them sits the 18-hole Denarau golf course. Briefly, for two holes, this very enjoyable and well-maintained course gets you down to the beach and the Pacific Ocean's edge.
Created from mangrove swamp, three snaking water channels ensure that water hazards come into play on 15 of the 18 well-spaced holes. There are forced carries over water at all the par-3s. Holes like the par-5 18th not only have water hugging one side of the fairway, but you'll also need to cross the small canals twice on your way to the water-fronted final green.
The layout also incorporates a unique Pacific theme with a liberal scattering of palm trees along the fairways and some bunkers shaped like simple marine creatures (.... spot them if you can).
Pick of the holes: the par-4 15th is Denarau’s signature hole. This long par-4 plays past a tree in the middle of the fairway, and takes you out (for the first time) to a palm-fringed green directly on the Pacific seashore. Both captivating and enchanting; a South Pacific hole to savour. Catch this hole at dusk and you'll probably be entertained to a fabulous sunset ..... but don't tarry too long .... there's still three challenging holes still to play on this very enjoyable Fijian course.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.
Must book in advance.
Non-metal spike facility. Golf carts available.
