Northumberland GC, The
The Northumberland Golf Club: this predominantly open heathland golf course includes 12 holes located inside the rails of Newcastle Racecourse, with the remaining six just outside the rails. Typically the greens here are firm and fast, and resolutely defended by plenty of bunkering.
Harry Colt and James Braid both input to the design of this well-rated and well-maintained layout, which has hosted national and regional championships, including regional qualification for The Open Championship.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and Sundays .

Northumberland GC is not alone in the UK in having a golf course predominantly located inside a horse-racing track. Among other notable and well-rated such courses are: Musselburgh (Old Course), Lothian, and Great Yarmouth & Caister GC.
Other racecourses with golf inside the rails (but not covered in Where2Golf) include: Aintree (Liverpool); Doncaster; Hereford; Kelso; Ludlow, Sandown Park (Esher), and Warwick. Both Royal Ascot and Epsom formerly had golf courses inside the rails; now they are alongside.
Newcastle Racecourse, located within High Gosforth Park, is home to the historic Northumberland Plate, and is one of Britain’s busiest racecourses, hosting over 60 fixtures a year.

Here at Prince’s Golf Club you'll find 27 excellent holes of links golf. Just over the fence and sharing similar terrain is Royal St George’s; but Prince’s is far from overshadowed by its venerable neighbour.
