From the M25 take exit 25 and follow A10 direction Hertford. After 3 miles take the Turnford exit and follow the A1170 direction Broxbourne. After 1.5 miles turn left at roundabout into Bell Lane (which becomes Baas Hill then White Stubbs Lane). After 1 mile (and just after crossing over the A10) golf is on your right.
The Hertfordshire Golf Club: Rather like nearby Hanbury Manor, the clubhouse here at The Hertfordshire is housed in a former tudor-style mansion house, with the golf course itself containing a good mix of open and more wooded parkland holes.
Whereas the undulations at Hanbury Manor come mainly on the front nine, here they are saved for the closing stretch and this is certainly where the course peaks in terms of layout, interest and challenge. In addition to the greater undulations, the back-nine also benefits from some nicely tree-lined fairways and more substantive water hazards.
Among the stronger closing stretch, the par-4 16th takes you away from trees and water at the tee, and into an almost links-like open area towards the green. The par-5 17th brings you back again with things in reverse order. Two very good holes. In many respects your front-nine walk through more open Hertfordshire countryside and back-nine through pleasant parkland, is a microcosm of Hertfordshire itself - in this respect the course is well named.
Visitors welcome on weekdays, and after midday on weekends.
Must book in advance. Handicap required.
Players generally walk this course.
Excellent (with 30 bay floodlit driving range)
The Hertfordshire's clubhouse is set in an 18th century mansion, with the golf course meandering through its ancient grounds, which were once owned by The Knights Templar.
