Seaford Golf Club

3-PLUS: Good course - several memorable features; worthy of 3½ stars.

Est. 1887

Seaford Golf Club: Set a mile or so inland from Seaford itself, this very pleasant downland golf course offers picturesque views across to the English Channel and, in the other direction, the rolling landscape of the South Downs. Apart from a slight climb at the first and eigtheenth holes, most of the course is relatively easy to walk.

The fairways are generous enough, not too heavily bunkered, with rough that's not too punishing either; in many ways a course that is nicely set-up for big-hitters and course management strategists alike. The environment is quite open for much of the round, although at the start and finish there are some tightish drives to make, with gorse and small trees awaiting stray drives. The 17th, played in the direction of a wonderful old barn, and the 18th across a dip in the ground provide the most testing tee shots. All in all a very good course with lovely scenery to take in on your way round.

Did you know?

Also in Seaford, and set above chalk cliffs rising from the sea, is the former home of Seaford Golf Club, and now home to Seaford Head Golf Club. Seaford Head is very much in view from Seaford GC, perched as it is on the cliffs between Newhaven and Cuckmere Haven. If you are in the area it is also well worth playing, and has an 18th tee-box that commands one of the finest views in golf - anywhere.
