Reigate Heath Golf Club

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1895

Reigate Heath Golf Club: Just a short distance from magnificent Walton Heath, here at Reigate Heath you'll find a wonderful nine-hole heathland course, sitting beneath its charming hilltop clubhouse and attendant 18th century windmill. Rated one the world's finest stand-alone nine-hole layouts, the course offers the chance to play a full 18, with separate and substantially different "front-nine" and "back-nine" teeing grounds.

Pleasantly undulating and blessed with stunning Surrey Hills views, especially from the higher elevations, some parts of the course have been described as quirky. But for the most part, the well-crafted holes gloriously bask in their infusion of heather and gorse, and abundant tree varieties including birch, oak, Scots pine and rowan. The greens are fast and subtly sloping, while a profusion of revetted sod-faced bunkers add real character to most holes. It all adds-up to a quintessential Surrey-Berkshire heathland layout, which will provide a thorough test over its nine holes, or ingeniously designed "18".

Don't expect to have this sublime heathland environment all to yourself however. The "heath" is popular with walkers, while also providing seriously good fun for their four-legged canine friends. If you want to walk your own dog around the course, no problem.

Pick of the holes: the elevated-tee to elevated-green long par-4 5th, played from the "front-nine" tees is a belter. A hole that could easily take its place alongside any at more renowned courses like Walton Heath or Sunningdale.

Did you know?

The club's iconic post mill, which stands alongside the clubhouse, was erected around 1753. It took wheat from the surrounding Reigate downland, where it was ground. The mill remained in operation until 1870.

Situated upstairs in the clubhouse at Reigate Heath Golf Club, is the Ranmore Restaurant offering Tony Tobin's fine dining cuisine. Open to the public on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings and also Sunday lunchtimes, the restaurant has stunning views over the Surrey Hills.
