Old Fold Manor Golf Club: On the highest point on the Great North Road between London and York, lies this easy-draining, gently-undulating parkland course. The excellent ground drainage comes courtesy of a "fold" of sand and gravel on which the course is based. - this also helps to explain the slightly heathland feel to parts of the course and the wonderful links-like bumps and hollows on the fairways.
Most of the holes are pleasantly tree-lined, some tight, others giving the driver a chance to shine. The sting here is definitely in the tail, with two long par-4's to finish, and an old manor house moat to navigate before reaching the 18th green. A busy course that provides a pleasant golf outing in North London.
Visitors welcome on weekdays, and after 3pm on weekends.
Must book in advance. Handicap required
Players generally walk this course. Golf carts available for hire.

There are several documented "old" features here at Old Fold Manor. The hedgerow between the 1st tee and 2nd green is reputedly over 900 years old; part of the Lancastrian army marched up the 6th fairway on their way to the bloody Battle of Barnet - 500 years ago; the moat in front of the 18th green dates from the 13th century and was built by Thomas Frowke, a prosperous London merchant - remains of the manor house he built are nicely buried under what is now the pro-shop.
