Kingswood Golf & Country Club: Located not too far from Walton Heath's illustrious pair of heathland golf courses, lesser-known Kingswood also lays down an excellent golfing challenge. This pleasantly tree-lined and always well maintained parkland course, was in fact designed by Walton's Heath's professional of 45 years - the legendary James Braid.
There is a quiet garden-like atmosphere here, with trees of many varieties elegantly lining the holes. If you stray from the good width fairways into the trees, finding your ball is usually not too big a problem, but getting to the green in regulation becomes a distinctly more tricky proposition.
The attractive array of fairway and greenside bunkering has recently been refurbished to a standard that would certainly meet with the approval of Braid himself. Included in the refurbishment programme was the testing par-5 5th, now unmistakably the layout's signature hole. Although not the best known of courses around London, this delightful Braid gem is certainly one that's worth discovering.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.
Must book in advance.

Kingswood has hosted a number of celebrated golfing events, including the Ladies' European Open Golf Championship and both the Jimmy Tarbuck and Russ Abbott Variety Club Classics.
Legendary golfer and golf course designer James Braid laid out and oversaw the building of Kingswood whilst serving as Head Professional at Walton Heath, a post he held for 45 years. Braid lived barely a mile from Kingswood and gave the course his closest attention.
