Hadley Wood Golf Club is home to something of a rarity in the London area, a golf course designed by the world-renowned Dr Alister Mackenzie. The club also boasts one of the most stylish clubhouses in and around the capital.
Using the area's gently rolling terrain, MacKenzie laid-out the well-proportioned fairways, adding in water hazards on the front nine and several dog-legging holes on the back-nine. The overall effect is an excellent parkland golf course that will charm and challenge you in equal measure. Pleasant views onto neighbouring wooded hills add to the attraction.
Pick of the holes: the back-nine begins at the lowest part of the course in challenging fashion. Here you face a long par-3 played across a lake to a green attractively framed by mature trees. From there the modestly bending par-4 11th takes you gently uphill to a bunker-defended green in front of the opulent clubhouse.
Visitors welcome on weekdays, and weekend afternoons (after 3pm).
Must book in advance. Handicap required.

Players generally walk this course. Golf carts available for hire.

Hadley Wood was used as a south of England regional qualifying course for the Open Championship from 1999 to 2005.
The imposing Georgian clubhouse was formerly a mansion house, built in 1781 and known as Beech Hill Park. Originally the house was called Russell Mansion, after its first owner Francis Russell (1740-1795), an English lawyer, administrator and author.
