Did you know?

Mariánské Lázně (Marienbad in German) is a spa town in the Czech Republic's Karlovy Vary region, and home to Royal Mariánské Lázně, the oldest golf club in the Czech Republic.

The golf club is one of very few outside the Commonwealth of Nations (formerly British Commonwealth) to have received its "Royal" prefix at the prerogative of a British monarch. These non-Commonwealth "royals" include: Curragh (Ireland), Dublin (Ireland), Homburger (Germany), Mariánské Lázně (Czech) and Bled (Slovenia).

The Royal title was conferred on Mariánské Lázně in 2003 by Queen Elizabeth II, recognising the club's strong historic connections with British royalty. After opening the club in 1905, Edward VII, a frequent visitor to Marienbad, visited the course on at least ten occasions.

Royal Mariánské Lázně has hosted numerous top level tournaments including the European Tour's Czech Open on several occasions (see our Tournaments section >by Venue >Marianske Lazne). Tennis legend Ivan Lendl is a member of the club.
