Mission Hills Shenzhen (Els)
The Els course at Mission Hills Golf Club, Shenzhen is a well-rated and always popular layout, which sits right beside the Vijay course. Especially on the front-nine, the holes climb and descend a hillside, against a lush backdrop of dense tree growth. This evokes a garden-like feel, not unlike some of the courses on South Africa's Garden Route ... known only to well by the "Big Easy".
Measuring over 7,000 yards, the Els course follows an "out-and-back" routing, with an excellent mix of straightaway and doglegging holes. On the flatter back-nine, strategically placed fairway bunkers and numerous water hazards come into their own.
Here on the Els course you will encounter wide swaths of manicured fairways, but beware missing the "short-grass" on your drives and approaches; the results are likely to be penal. The signature long par-5 4th, features a tee box atop the highest point on the course, providing golfers with panoramic views of Mission Hills Golf Club and the surrounding region.
The Mission Hills Shenzhen resort centre is home to four championship golf courses (World Cup, Els, Ozaki and Vijay) as well as the delightful par-54 Zhang executive course. Just 5 km to the northwest you'll find the resort's Mid-Valley clubhouse, home to the Faldo and Pete Dye layouts. Another 5 km further on is Mission Hills' Dongguan Stay&Play resort, with another five championship courses (Olazabal, Annika, Rose-Poulter, Norman and Leadbetter).
You will need to be a guest at the onsite accommodations if you want to play any of the Mission Hills' courses in Shenzhen and Dongguan.

Ernie Els burst onto the international golf scene when he won the U.S. Open in 1994 at the age of 24. He followed that with three more major championships, the 1997 U.S. Open and the 2002 and 2012 Open Championships. Known for his silky-smooth swing, "The Big Easy" counts the 2001 World Cup among his more than 60 victories worldwide.
