Royal Blue Golf Club at Baha Mar: with a few hiccups along the way, this Chinese backed luxury mega-resort opened in 2017, together with its Jack Nicklaus designed golf course. Tucked in behind the towering resort hotels, which get pride of place along the beachfront, the Golden Bear's layout makes full use of a number of large brackish lagoons on the front nine, and a forested setting on the back.
Stretching to 7,189 yards, the course offers two very distinct nine hole loops. The front-nine includes high-profile water features, with several holes playing alongside good-sized lagoons. Ocean vistas are limited to a few glimpses.
The jungle-lined back-nine presents an altogether "drier" experience, until you arrive at the par-3 16th. This signature hole plays out to a stunning island green precariously bordering Lake Cunningham.
Tree growth on the layout includes 15 species of native trees, including protected mahogany, silk cotton, Caribbean pine and buttonwood, as well as red and black mangroves. There's also more than 70 indigenous species of birds, including the Bahama woodstar, egret and osprey.

The Baha Mar mega-resort development was originally a project commissioned by China Construction America (CAA). The golf course was apparently slated to become a member of the TPC network of courses, which in the end was not the case. In the absence of a casino operator license, the project was transferred from CAA, the world's largest construction and real estate conglomerate, to Hong Kong-based Chow Tai Fook Enterprises.
