Roco Ki Golf Club (Faldo Legacy course): GOLF COURSE WAS CLOSED IN 2011, probably on a permanent basis. Check current status before planning a visit.
[Original Where2Golf description]: Joining Dominican's recent surge in new and dramatic oceanside golf courses, the Faldo Legacy Course at Roco Ki is guaranteed to fully test your game. Laid out in three contrasting environments, you'll need to deploy just about every shot in your bag to score well. You may also need to invent a few new ones, if the wind is blowing hard.
The middle section of the course, from the par-3 7th to the par-4 12th puts you in a links-style environment, where an open landscape, large waste bunkers and smooth "bump-and-run" green surrounds are key ingredients. Either side of this maturing "inland links", the course weaves through an attractive area of mangroves, with several testingly tight holes placing a premium on accuracy. Anything hit offline will either find, or roll into the swamp's impenetrable vegetation.
Different again in character from the inland-links and mangrove sections, Roco Ki's opening duo and signature closing trio of holes, are played in full view of the roaring Atlantic Ocean. The par-3 17th will draw comparisons with the par-3 7th at Pebble Beach. This very short, downhill gem is stunningly framed by a rocky backdrop, the ocean stretching away into the distance.
If 17 provides a hole to savour, then the oceanside 18th is one to set you nerve ends jangling. With the wind usually at your back, this par-5 may give risk-reward a whole new meaning. A brave drive needs to flirt with the edge of the cliffs to set-up a second-shot over a wide inlet that cuts across the fairway. The hole finally dog-legs from right to left into a dramatically positioned cliff-top green.
Course closed in 2011. Check with club if it reopens, which seems unlikely.

Before the arrival of the Spanish colonial settlers (c.1490), Dominican Republic was inhabited by the seafaring Taino people. "Roco Ki" are Taino words meaning "respecting the land." The Westin Roco Ki Beach & Golf Resort hotel was due to open in 2010, but the development came to a grinding halt in 2011. The golf facilities at Roco Ki were to be managed and operated by Troon Golf.
