Osoyoos Golf Club (Desert Gold course)

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1972

Osoyoos Golf Club (Desert Gold course): Located in the heart of “Desert Wine Country” in British Columbia, Osoyoos Golf Club offers two 18-hole championship golf courses. The higher-rated and more difficult of the two layouts is the Desert Gold course, which roams out-and-back across undulating open desert terrain. By contrast the more compact resort-style Park Meadows is lightly tree-lined course, with its two nine-hole loops staying closer to the clubhouse.

Framed by rugged mountain backdrops, the club is set on a hillside overlooking Osoyoos Lake, the town of Osoyoos, and surrounding vineyards and orchards. Away from any intrusive roads or housing, the layout abounds with elevation changes, rolling fairways and stylish bunkering. The well-crafted holes enjoy a linksy openness as they meander through sagebrush and grass covered hills.

Carved out of the desert brush the Desert Gold layout slides along the side of a hill for its first few holes, before climbing up and around the brush-covered terrain, with ever-more arresting views to be enjoyed along the way. Panoramic sights aside, the course's good-width well-defined fairways are typically framed by dusty desert brush. Tee shots on this modern handsomely bunkered design are mostly straight; several require a degree of accuracy, especially where out-of-bounds is present.

You'll enjoy the best of the fabulous scenery from the par-4 8th, which is played alongside fruit orchards, through to the par-4 13th and 14th holes played "in the hills" at the layout's highest elevation. The par-4 17th and 18th holes revert back to a more tree-lined parkland style, something experienced earlier, way back as the par-5 1st.
