Eagle Ranch Golf Resort: Spectacularly located on ancient bluffs above the Columbia River and Windermere Lake, the golf course at Eagle Ranch is the centrepiece of a distinctive, master-planned resort community. The resort's high-end vacation rental properties blend with their natural woodland surroundings, never intruding on the excellently designed golf course.

With the Purcell Mountains across the river to the west and the Canadian Rockies towering up to the east, every hole enjoys a visually arresting backdrop. Good-width, partly tree-lined fairways weave their way through well-spaced avenues of pine and spruce. Notwithstanding trees aplenty, there's also a feeling of space and openness from the tee. On your approach shots, stylish bunkering and slick run-off areas await greenside.

Crossing daunting ravines and taking on a couple of blind drives adds to the challenges on the more undulating back-nine, which builds to a memorable finish. An almost links-style trio of holes, from the par-4 13th to the par-5 15th, bring small ponds into play (also the case at the par-3 2nd). The signature, short par-3 16th demands a carry over a ravine to a rock-fronted green, while another ravine needs to be crossed from the tee at the par-4 17th.

One of the most spectacular views to be found anywhere in Canadian golf awaits at the final green. Framed by mountains all around, the wide Columbia River with its swathes of attractive wetlands can be seen joining into the wonderfully scenic Windermere Lake. Although difficult to tear yourself away from this view, the same stunning panorama can also be enjoyed from the clubhouse.
