Crowbush Cove
The Links at Crowbush Cove is rightly regarded as the flagship course on Prince Edward Island. Also amongst PEI's finest, and pushing quite hard for top spot, is its sister course Dundarave, located 35 km to the south. Crowbush however gets the edge, based on its wonderfully varied layout and stunning coastal scenery.
Excellently maintained and presented, this easily walkable Tom McBroom layout winds its way through tree-lined wooded holes, before heading out to the sea in stylish links-golf fashion. Along the way is a fabulous variety of beautifully crafted holes. The good-width fairways should inspire confidence from the tee, even though there's plenty of stylish bunkering and himalayan mounding to catch stray shots. The roller-coaster greens are generally large and fast.
This parkland cum links-style "hybrid" seems to fit perfectly with its natural surroundings, be they woodland, wetland or beside the sea amongst the coastal shrubland. The linksy seaside stretches are arguably everybody's favourite, even though the more "inland" holes are also excellent. The par-4 7th takes you out to the shoreline of the Gulf of St Lawrence for the first time, from where you'll see huge sand dunes away to the east. The tough par-3 8th presents a tee-to-green carry across a small sea inlet, another fabulous beachside hole.
As on the front-nine loop, the back-nine's closing stretch gets you directly alongside the beach. The coastal vista from the elevated green of the short testing par-4 16th is simply stunning. From the very scenic tee at 17, you'll not see much of the green. This blind short par-3 is a real "wee demon"; miss the green to left or right and nothing but trouble awaits.
