The National Golf Club (Long Island course): When the Long Island Country Club merged with The National Golf Club in 2014, the Long Island course became the fourth of The National's 18-hole layouts, although located 50 km north-east of the other three.
Long Island presents another in the splendid and seemingly never-ending collection of classic Melbourne sandbelt courses. Its gentle undulations and tree-lined fairways create a very attractive parkland golfing environment. There are some lovely sweeping dog-leg holes on both the front and back nines, with the front-nine also containing two wonderful back-to-back par-5s at the 4th and 5th; treat these holes with care, they are both potential card wreckers.
With bunkering that is solid (but not overdone), greens that are well-paced (but not lightning fast), and reasonably wide fairways, this is a course where you can enjoy your round without feeling unduly pressured or punished. Perhaps the same cannot be said of Long Island's next door neighbour ... the more undulating and arguably much tougher 36-holes of the Peninsula Kingswood Country Golf Club.
Private club, with restricted outside visitor play. Overseas & interstate visitors should contact the Club regarding playing possibilities; generally available on Mon-Fri.

Non-metal spike facility. Walking permitted at all times. Golf carts available for hire.

Long Island GC was constructed between 1935-37 on land that for many years had been the site of the Frankston Racecourse. In 2014, members of Long Island Country Club and The National Golf Club, located 50 km away on the Mornington Peninsula, agreed to merge and form one club. The National Golf Club, as the merged club is called, is now the only Australian golf club to offer its members access to four championship layouts.
Next door to The National's Long Island course in Frankston, is the Peninsula Kingswood Country Golf Club, whose very first course was also laid out by Gordon Bernard Oliver.
