Heritage Golf & Country Club (St John course)

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 2002

Heritage Golf & Country Club (St John course): Two contrasting championship golf courses await at Heritage G&CC, located alongside the Yarra Valley hotel. With its 36-holes of championship golf, the Heritage offers an excellent Melbourne Stay&Play venue, with both courses not usually accessible on an outside visitor, daily play basis.

The original St John course, a Jack Nicklaus signature design, sits just south of the passing Yarra River. Across a small bridge on the river's north bank, you'll find the equally impressive Henley layout, which opened for play in 2007, five years after its older sibling.

There's no mistaking the St John's challenging character and overall quality of layout, which you'd associate with an excellently maintained Nicklaus designed course. In its quiet and picturesque Yarra Valley setting, always pleasing on the eye, the course occupies relatively open and gently undulating terrain.

With pleasant, partly-wooded, rolling hills providing the backdrop, parts of the front and back-nines make excellent use of a long and winding lake, which snakes alongside several holes. The greens can be as quick as those on Melbourne's famous sandbelt courses, full of mesmerising slopes. Typically they're well-defended by a fine array of bunkers and natural looking water hazards.

Stay&Play at Heritage G&CC: luxury onsite accommodation (Yarra Valley Lodge) available, see Where2Stay section below.
