Cape Schanck
Cape Schanck Golf Course: Each hole of this very pleasantly undulating course is individually sculpted from the trees and bushes that once covered this and all other parts of the Mornington Peninsula.
After a solid, and one might say American feeling front nine, the wind freshens as you head up the short par-4 10th, to be greeted at the 11th tee by the first of several wonderful back-nine sea and Mornington Peninsula views. The "price" of these views is levied in the form of tighter fairways and greater undulation, with the early good-width rolling fairways being replaced by some much tougher and tighter drives.
The elevation changes create plenty of interesting holes, not least the superb par-3 14th, with a backdrop of the ocean and parts of the National GC. In true Trent Jones fashion, some of the greens here are huge - at the short par-4 6th the green must measure fully 80 metres from front to back.
Among other Trent Jones features are a smattering of water hazards, including a small lake guarding the front of the green at the excellent par-3 7th. All in all a good course, with its even more impressive twin just next door (the Trent Jones designed Old Course of the National GC).
